Frequently Asked Questions

What is Relay For life?

Relay for Life is overnight team event to fight cancer whereby teams take turns to run or walk around a track and raise vital funds that go towards cancer support and services for Territorians.

Teams register and spend the months in the lead up to the event raising money that goes towards providing a range of support and services to reduce the impact of cancer on Territorians

Last year this unique event drew over 50 teams and raised invaluable money to assist in the care of Territorians with cancer and their families.

How does it work?

Take the challenge!

Teams of 10 -15 people complete a relay-style walk or run taking it in turns to keep their baton moving overnight, enjoying the sensational festive atmosphere created through entertainment, camping, spot prizes and, most importantly, the vibrancy of the hundreds of lively people on the track!

The highlights at the event include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Survivors’ Walk and the Candlelight Ceremony.

Who can participate?

This is an event for all people and levels of fitness and is open to everyone in the community, with teams formed between friends, family and workmates.

Walk or run!

There are no rules about how fast your baton should move around the track, just keep it moving!

Most teams choose to walk whilst some athletic groups take up fitness challenge running the event and competing for the highest laps award.

Relay for Life 2008 a Great Success!

Cancer survivors turned out in numbers to walk the first lap of Relay for Life 2008 at Gardens Oval on Friday 26th September.   Over 43 teams and over 500 participants camped out overnight to help Celebrate for those survivors who have beaten cancer, Remember those lost to the disease, and to help Fight Back by showing their support.  The many months have paid off with teams rising over $195,000.00 towards helping Territorians touched by cancer receive much needed support and services.

The Jabiru Relay for Life held on the last weekend in August was a great triumph! Raising more than 16,000.00 thanks for the support of ERA mine and the Jabiru Community. This small town is a great example of how a community can band together to make a difference. Their efforts in 2008 more than doubled last year funds raised so thanks to all the wonderful people who made this all happen
